Has anyone used Mecanum wheels for a first robot? Any pros or cons?

Mike - You will get a much better response to any FIRST related questions on sensors or wheels or whatever if you post the questions on the Delphi Forum. I have seen multiple threads on the Mecanum wheels this year as well as several on the sensors.

Andymark.biz makes mecanum wheels specifically for first robots. They also made the custom sprocket on the Space Pirate 2007 climber. I hear that the drawback of mechanum (and Omni) wheels is that your bot can be pushed around by other bots. Also if you are going to use them make sure that your control system can make the most of them. I doubt that a human can do the control mixing on the fly. But I have never used them.
